Du’a From the Quran

Waqur rabbighfir warham wa’anta khayrur rahimeen.
So say, “Our Lord! Grant us forgiveness and mercy! For You are the Best of those who show mercy.”
Quran 23:118

Rabbi inni zalamto nafsi faghfirli.
Oh my Lord, I have indeed wronged my soul!
Quran 28:16

Rabbana innana amanna faghfir lana zonoobana waqina ‘athaban nar.
Our Lord! We have indeed believed. Forgive us our sins and save us from the agony of the Fire.
Quran 3:16

Rabbana latu akhitna in nasina akhta’na rabbana wala tahmil ‘alayna isran kama hamaltaho ‘alal lathina min qablina. Rabbana wala tohammilna mala taqata lana beh wa’fo’anna waghfir lana warhamna anta maolana fansorna ‘alal qawmil kafireen.
Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us. Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Help us against those who stand against faith.”
Quran 2:286

Du’a From the Sunnah

Astagh firol lahal-lathi la ilaha illa howal hayyal qayyoma w’atooba ilayh.

Glory be to You, Oh Allah, and all praise! I testify that there is no deity but You. I seek Your forgiveness and to You I do repent. (Recommended to repeat three times.)

RABBI INNEE Z’ALAMTU NAFSEE FAGHFIRLEE INNAHOO LAA YAGHFIRUD ‘D’UNOOBA ILLA ANTA

DUA’A 17

O Allah, I seek forgiveness for every sin, I committed, about which, of course, You know inside and out, from the beginning to the end of my life, whether committed deliberately or intentionally, few or many, abstruse or manifest, old or new, secretly carried out or openly done; and for whatever wrong I have done I turn repentant unto You and beseech You to bless Muhammad and the children of Muhammad and forgive all my unjust acts I did to wrong the people (because they have rights which I have to recognize and fulfill) but You have full authority to forgive those wrongdoings whenever and howsoever You wish, O the most merciful.

ALLAHUMMA INNEE ASTAGHFIRUKA LIKULLI D’AMBIN JARAA BIHEE I’LMUKA FIYYA WA A’LAYYA ILAA AAKHIRI U’MREE BI-JAMEE-I D’UNOOBEE LI-AWWALIHAA WA AAKHIRIHAA WA A’MADIHAA WA KHAT A-IHAA WA QALEELIHAA WA KATHEERIHAA WA DAQEEQIHAA WA JALEELIHAA WA QADEEMIHAA WA H’ADEETHIHAA WA SIRRIHAA WA A’LAANIYATIHAA WA JAMEE-I MAA ANAA MUD’NIBUHOO WA ATOOBU ILAYKA WA AS-ALUKA AN TUS’ALLIYA A’LAA MUH’AMMADIN WA AALI MUH’AMMADIN WA AN TAGHFIRA LEE JAMEE-A, MAA AH’S’AYTU MIM MAZ’AALIMIL I’BAADI QIBALEE FA-INNA LI-IBAADIKA A’LAYYA H’UQOOQAN WA ANAA MURTAHINUM BIHAA TAGHFIRUHAA KAYFA SHI-TA WA ANNAA SHIA-TA YAA ARH’AMAR RAAH’IMEEN

DUA’A 18The following istighfar is tekan from Sahifa Alawiyyah by Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib. It can be recited after any obligatory salat

O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for those wrongdoings for which I had turned repentant unto you but have done again. I seek your forgiveness for those deeds which I planned to do for your sake only but afterwards other interests not connected with You crept in, and I seek Your forgiveness for my taking advantage of the bounties, You gave me, in order to disobey You. I seek forgiveness of Allah (who is) “There is no god save He, the self-subsisting, the knower of the unknown and known, the beneficent, the merciful.” For all those sins which I have committed and for all those transgressions I perpetrated. O Allah grant me perfect ability to use, follow and apply reason, astute and keen determination, preponderant genius, pure heart, all-embracing wisdom and beautiful elegent manners. Let all these favours work for my good; let them not harm me, through your mercy, O the most merciful.

Then say 5 times:

I seek forgiveness of Allah who is: “There is no god save He, the self-subsisting” and I turn repentant unto Him.

“ALLAHUMMA INNEE ASTAGHFIRUKA MIN KULLI MAA TUBTU ILAYKA MINHU THUMMA U’DTU FEEHI WA ASTAGHFIRUKA LIMAA ARADTU BIHEE WAJHAKA FA-KHAALAT’ANEE FEEHI MAA LAYSA LAKA WA ASTAGHFIRUKA LIN-NA A’MIL LATEE MANANTA BIHAA A’LAYYA FA TAQAWWAYTU BIHAA A’LAA MA-A’AS’EEKA ASTAGHFIRUL-LAAHAL LAD’EE LAA ILAAHA ILLAA HUWAL H’AAYUL QAYYOOMU A’ALIMUL GHAYBI WASH SAAHAADATIR RAH’MAANUR RAH’EEM LI KULLI D’AMBIN AD’NABTUHOO WA BI-KULLI MA’S’IYATIN IRTAKABTUHAA ALLAAHUMMAR-ZUQNEE A’QLAN KAAMILAN WA A’ZMAN THAAQIBAN WA LUBBAN RAAJIH’AN WA QALBAN D’AKIYYAN WA I’LMAN KATHEERAN WA ADABAN BAARI-A’N WAJ-A’L D’AALIKA KULLAHOO LEE WA LAA TAJ-A’LHU A’LAYYA BI-RAH’MATIKA YAA ARH’AMAR RAH’IMEEN

Then say 5 times :

ASTAGHFIRULLAAHAL LAD’EE LAA ILAAHA ILLAA HUWAL H’AYYUL QAYYOOMU WA ATOOBU ILAYHI

FORGIVENESS

O Allah! We ask You to forgive our sins before we leave this place. Let our good efforts be met with Your gratitude, our good deeds be profitable, and our deeds successful. O You The Most Merciful.

O Allah! Make our efforts worthy of acceptance, and our sins forgiven, our deeds accepted, and our flaws concealed. O The Best of those who hear.

O Allah! Forgive us because You love forgiveness and You are All Forgiving.

Our Lord, grant us forgiveness and turn towards us. You are indeed The Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

O Allah we are asking You – O Allah, The One. The Eternal Absolute and The One Who begets not and Who is not begotten, there is none like unto You – to forgive our sins, verily You are Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

O Allah! You are our Lord, there is no deity worthy of worship but You. You created us and we are Your servants, and we are faithful to our covenant and our promise to You as much as we can. We seek refuge in You from all the evil we have done. We acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon us, and we confess to You all our sins. Grant us forgiveness for nobody can forgive sins except You. (6)

O Allah! Forgive my past and future sins and whatever I have done in secret, and whatever I have done in public. You are The One Who brings forward and Who delays, there is no deity worthy of worship but You.

O Allah! I have done great injustice to myself. No one forgives sin but You, so grant me forgiveness from Your Presence, and show mercy upon me; You are indeed The Oft-Forgiving.

O Allah! Cleanse my heart with water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from all sins as a white cloth is cleansed from dirt. Distance me and my sins as You have distanced the East from the West.

O Allah! We seek refuge in You from knowingly (or unknowingly) associating anything unto You, and ask Your forgiveness for what we do not know.

O Allah! Grant us forgiveness and show mercy on us. Grant us well-being, and grant us provision.

THE QUR’AN

O Allah! Make the Holy Qur’an the delight of my heart, the light of my soul and the relief of my sorrows and griefs, and to guide me to the way to Paradise of Naeem.

O Allah! Help us to recite the Holy Qur’an all day and night in the way that pleases Your Lordship. O Allah! Let it be a cure for our hearts and a remedy for our diseases and let it be our saviour from the Fire.

O Allah! Let us be amongst the people of the Qur’an who are the closest people to You. O You The Merciful of all.

O Allah! Let us be of those who do Halaal things mentioned in the Qur’an and avoid Haraam things mentioned in it. Let us be of those who recite it well and understand its clear meanings, as well as the hidden ones.

O Allah! Make victorious Your religion, Your Book (the Qur’an) and the Sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad.

O Allah! Take us closer towards Your pleasure, and keep us away from Your anger and punishment. Grant us the opportunity to recite Your verses (of the Qur’an), by Your Mercy, O The Most Merciful.

THIS LIFE / THE HEREAFTER

O Allah! We ask You for everything that is good, in this life and the Hereafter, whether we know it or not; and we seek Your protection from everything that is bad, in this world or the Hereafter, whether we know it or not.

O Allah, by Your Mercy! Make things easy for us and help us do anything that pleases you and is good for us in this world and the Hereafter.

O Allah! Set right our religion that guards our souls from sins, make this world where we live better for us and make the Hereafter to where we return better for us. Let life be a cause for more good, and let death put an end to any evil that may befall on us.

O Allah! Make our last days better in all aspects, and spare us from humiliation in this world and punishment in the Hereafter.

O Allah! Keep us firm with the word that stands firm in this world and in the Hereafter, and make us of the saved ones.

We ask You, our Lord, to give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and to protect us from the agony of the Fire.

DEATH

O Allah! We ask you for full Eeman (faith), true conviction, acceptable deeds and true repentance before death; rest and ease on death; and forgiveness and mercy after death.

O Allah! Purify our hearts, cover our defects, forgive our sins and let the last of our deeds be the best. O Lord of the worlds.

O Allah! Let our last days be the best days of our life, and our last deeds be the best of our deeds. And the best day, the day we meet You.

O Allah! You are our refuge when all doors are closed in our face. You are our hope when we become separated from our loved ones and left alone to face our fate after death. Where no good deeds can be accepted any more.

O Allah! Make the agony of death easy for us and take our souls while You are pleased with us.

O Allah! Let us live as Muslims and die as Muslims without disgracing or subjecting us to temptations.

O Allah! Cleanse our heart from the sickness of arrogance and pride, and let us die as a sincere, humble Muslim.

O Allah! Keep us alive in humility, and cause us to die in humility, and raise us amongst those who are humble.

THE GRAVE / JUDGEMENT DAY

O Allah! Let the grave be our best home after death, make its narrow vaults wide and spacious.

O Allah! Have mercy on us when we stand humble on the Day of Judgement, make our feet go steady on the narrow path of Siraat, save us from the agonies of the Day of Judgement and make our faces white when the faces of the criminals and disbelievers become black.

O Allah! Let us have an ever quenching drink from the Haud (pool) of Your Prophet Muhammad.

O Allah! Light the graves of Muslims who have died, and be merciful and make life easier for those who are still alive.

O Allah! Have Mercy on those Muslims who have died believing that there is no god other than You, and that Prophet Muhammad is Your Messenger. O Allah! Have mercy on them and forgive their sins, make them right and cast Your pardon upon them. Let them rest in peace, make their access wide enough and wash them with rain water, snow and ice; clean them from sins as a white dress is cleaned from dirt.

O Allah! Let their graves be spacious and full of light and joy so they rest in peace till they are raised up secured on the day of Resurrection. We ask You to have Mercy on us too when we will become like them under earth…..lonely and helpless, as no more deeds are allowed.

O Allah! Let our account be taken by an easy reckoning.

O Allah! We seek Your refuge from the torment of the grave, and we seek Your refuge from (the) affliction (of Masih al-Dajjal – the Anti-Christ), and we seek Your refuge from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah! We seek Your refuge from all (kinds of) sins and from being in debt.

O Allah! Deliver us from Your punishment the Day You raise Your servants.

HELL/PARADISE

O Allah! We ask You to be pleased with us, reward us with Paradise and we seek Your refuge from Your anger and the punishment of the Fire.

O Allah! We ask You for Paradise, and to bring us closer to it by any act or saying; and protect us from the Fire and from any act or saying that brings us closer to it.

O Allah! Avert from us the punishment of Hell (Jahannam), its punishment is the most severe, it is the worst final place to reside in.

O Allah! You hear our supplications even before we utter them as You can cover the dry bones with flesh. We call You to spare our necks, and those of our parents, and of all Muslims from the fire of Hell.

O Allah! On this day, open for us the doors of the Heavens, and lock the doors of Hell from us. Help us to recite the Qur’an, O The One Who sends down tranquility into the hearts of the believers.

O Allah! I am asking You, for to You belongs all praise, there is none worthy of worship but You, You are One, there is no partner unto You, The Benefactor, O Majesty, Honour and Bounty, The Living, the Self-Subsisting, I am asking You (for) Paradise and seek refuge from Hell.

O Allah! I ask You for all the good that is near and that which is far, the one of which I know of and the one I do not.

O Allah! I ask You for the good of what Your Prophet and Servant asked of, and I seek refuge in You from the evils of which Your Prophet and Servant asked of.

O Allah! I ask You for Paradise and for such deeds and sayings that will bring us closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the deeds and sayings which would take me further from it. I ask You to make all decisions good for me.

RAMADHAAN

O Allah! Let us complete the month of ramadhaan in such a manner that will meet Your satisfaction; spare us from Your punishment and from the Fire of Hell and let our final abode be in Your Paradise.

O Allah! Let us live to fast Ramadhaan for many years to come and many times to elapse.

O Allah! Accept our fasting and prayers during the Holy Month; forgive our mistakes and sins, and help us to observe Your commands to enable us to be prepared for what is to come.

O Allah! Let us be steadfast on the right path all the time, whether during Ramadhaan or other than Ramadhaan.

FOR OURSELVES

O Allah! Give us piety and purify our souls. You are The Master and Lord of the souls.

O Allah! We seek Your guard from vain knowledge, lack of fearing You, and from having an unsatisfied soul, and an unanswered supplication.

O Allah! Let us be satisfied with the Halaal (permissible) and separate us from the Haraam (prohibited). Enrich us with Your favours so that we wont be in need of anyone else.

O Allah! We ask You that we may do charitable (good) works and avoid objectionable deeds. We ask for Your forgiveness and blessings.

O Allah! If You want to test our Faith, it is better for us to die than to fail the test.

O Allah! Guide us to the best of manners and deeds. You are the only One who guides best; and keep us away from the worst of deeds….. no one can avert these from us than You.

O Allah! Let our hearts never go astray after You have guided us to the right path; bestow upon us your mercy. You are The Most Generous.

O Allah! Relieve us from all distress, alleviate all our worries and cure all our illnesses.

O Allah! We ask You to grant us from Your great favors, and not to deprive us from Your endless bounties.

O Allah! Give us and do not forbid us. Give us more and do not decrease it. Keep us related toYou and not cut off. Lead us to the right path and make it easy for us.

O Allah! Let us be among those who called You and had their calls answered; those who asked for Your guidance and were guided; who sought Your victory and were given; who relied on You and were satisfied; and those who repented and got their repentance accepted.

O Allah! Purify our souls from hypocrisy, our tongues from lying and our eyes from treachery. You know the treacherous eyes and what is buried in the hearts.

O Allah! We ask You for guidance, piety, virtuousness and affluence.

O Allah! Guard us with Islam all the time, whether we are standing, sitting or lying. Protect us from the malicious acts of the enemy and the envious.

O Allah! You control all the hearts so make our belief in Islam steadfast, give us strength to overcome our weaknesses and be our Guardian, release our captives, heal our fractures, and let our bodies be prohibited to the Fire.

O Allah! Save us from disease, agony, enemy’s satire, and ill-fate. Let us live a happy and healthy life, and enjoin upon us the same abode of martyrs and the neighbourhood of Prophets.

O Allah! Give us patience to face difficult times and to win against our enemies.

O Allah! Help us to remember, praise and worship You well.

O Allah! Teach us what is useful and let us benefit from what You have taught us.

O Allah! Let us love Eeman (faith) and make it nice to our hearts and let us hate disbelief, blasphemy and disobedience, and make us among those guided by You.

O Allah! We seek Your pleasure to guard us against Your anger, and Your mercy to guard us against Your punishment. However much we try to praise You, we cannot praise You as much as You have praised Yourself.

O Allah! Do not condemn us for slips, make us decrease mistakes and errors. Do not make us a target for afflictions and troubles, by Your Honour, O The Honour of the Muslims.

O Allah! Purify us from uncleanliness and dirt. Make us patient over events that are decreed, grant us the ability to be pious, and keep company with the good, by Your Help, O The Beloved of the destitute.

O Allah! Do not let us degrade ourselves by incurring Your disobedience, and do not strike us with the whip of Your punishment. Keep us away from the causes of Your anger, by Your Kindness and Your Power, O The Ultimate wish of those who desire.

O Allah! Keep us away from mistakes and sins of the day, and grant us that we remember You continuously throughout the day and night.

O Allah! Change our affairs from (being) difficult to (being) easy, accept our apologies, and decrease for us (our) sins and burdens, O The Compassionate with His righteous servants.

O Allah! Let us love You as You deserve to be loved, and let us fear You as You deserve to be feared, and let us leave this world serving Your Ummah.

O Allah! Turner of the heart, establish our heart on Your religion.

O Allah! Turner of the heart, move our heart to obey You.

O Allah! I seek Your refuge from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and ruin, and miserliness, and seek refuge with You from reaching a degraded geriatric old age, and seek refuge with You from the afflictions of the world, and from the punishment in the grave.

O Allah! Your Mercy we I desire, so do not forsake me nor entrust me to ourselves even for the blinking of an eye. Facilitate all my affairs, there is no deity worthy of worship but You.

O Living, O Self-Subsisting, in Your Mercy do I seek help.

O Allah! Cast light in my heart, light on my tongue, light in my eyes, light in my ears, light on my right, light on my left, light above me, light before me, light behind me, and cast light in my soul. And give me immense light.

O Allah! Set right my religion which is the basis of my affairs, set right my world which is my subsistence, set right my Hereafter to which I shall return, and make my life the source of abundance in every good thing, and make death a comfort for me from every evil.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from poverty, from want, from humiliation, and I seek refuge in You from wronging another or being wronged.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing; the evil of my sight; the evil of my tongue; and from the evil of my heart.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a heart which is not humble; from du’a what is not answered; from a soul which is not satisfied; and from knowledge that is of no benefit. I seek refuge in You from all these four.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from appalling character; deeds; desires; and diseases.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the bad day; from the bad night; from the bad hour; from the bad companion; and from the bad neighbour of the house of abode.

FOR THE UMMAH

O Allah! Relieve the distressed ones of their worries and the oppressed ones of their troubles. Settle the debts for the indebted persons and give cure to the sick, whether they are blood brothers or brothers in Islam.

O Allah! Guide the Muslim Youth to the right path, let them be obedient and help them to avoid the causes of Your wrath. Preserve them as a treasure for Islam and Muslims.

O Allah! Guide the Muslim Scholars, help them enforce good conduct and stand against bad conduct. Preserve them as a treasure for Islam and Muslims.

O Allah! Guide the Muslim rulers and let them have good support/staff who will show and give them the right advice, and that will show and help them to do right. And keep them away from bad support/staff. O Lord of the worlds!

O Allah! Guide the Muslim women and protect them from displaying their charms and beauties, and guard them against the misleading disbelievers and corrupted persons.

O Allah! Help our brothers everywhere to gain victory over Your enemy and theirs.

O Allah! They are barefooted, naked and hungry. So dress and feed them; they are poor and need Your compassion. So cast Your mercy on them. O You Most Compassionate to the poor and Victory Giver to the weak.

O Allah! All of our brothers and sisters who are suffering around the world for Your sake through torture, violence, imprisoned, etc, forgive their sins and grant them Paradise. Make it easy on them and their families.

O Allah! Let us have mercy on the orphans; feed the hungry, spread peace; and keep company with the noble-minded, O The Shelter of the hopeful.

GENERAL

O Allah! It is You we worship, and unto You we pray and prostrate, and towards You we hasten and You we serve. We hope for Your Mercy and fear Your punishment, verily Your punishment will fall upon the disbelievers. O Allah! We seek Your aid and ask Your pardon, we praise You with all good and do not disbelieve in You. We believe in You and submit unto You, and we disown and reject those who disbelieve in You.

O Allah! Guide us with those whom You have guided; protect us from evils along with those whom You have protected; support us along with those whom You have supported; bless what you have given us, protect us and avert from us the worst things that You have judged upon us, as You judge and no one can judge upon You. Those under Your support will never be humiliated and those whom You have disgraced will never be honoured. You are The Blesser O our Lord, and The Almighty, we praise You and thank You for everything You gave or destined for us. We humbly pray for You to forgive all the sins that we have committed and we repent to You.

O Allah! Give us a share of Your fear to prevent us from disobeying You; of obedience to guide us to the way to Your paradise; and of certainty to relieve us from the burdens of life.

O Allah! Let us enjoy our hearing, sight and powers throughout our life span and make it a heritage afterwards. Direct our revenge towards those who were unjust to us and help us against our enemies. Let us not suffer a calamity concerning our religion and make us not take this world as our greatest concern or a goal for our knowledge.

O Allah! There is no lord to call but You and no master to ask from but You. Who else can we call or ask from while You are The Most Generous.

O Allah! Let those who want to harm the Muslims have the same taste of what they have been plotting returned to their own necks, and keep them busy with their own troubles and let them destroy themselves with their own hands.

O Allah! Raise the standing of Islam and Muslims and degrade the standing of Al-Kufr and Al-Kafiruun and the shirk and Mushrikeen (who associate others with Allah). Destroy the enemies of religion.

O Allah! Make piety and this religion of truth You sent Your Messenger with, to triumph over all other religions, despite the bad will of the disbelievers.

O Allah! You have said ‘Call me and I will answer’, and here we have called You, so hear and answer our call.

May the blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, his Companions, and followers.
